The Geebung Neighbourhood Watch is hosting a “Stop Elder Abuse” morning tea.
10 am Wednesday 21st June
Geebung RSL at 10am 21st June.
Presenter: Sergeant Kerry McKay of the Queensland Police Service.
This week marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This gives us the opportunity to reach out and discuss something that, due to its nature isn’t often talked about. What is Elder abuse? Elder abuse is any act that causes harm to an older person. This harm can be physical, emotional or financial and is usually carried out by someone known to them. Because of this victims of elder abuse find it very hard to seek advice or support. A number of resources are available if you or someone you know is experiencing, or suspect abuse.
An Elder Abuse helpline is available 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday 1300 651 192 (Queensland only)
For help and support, information can be found here https://www.communities.qld.gov.au/campaign/theres-no-excuse-elder-abuse
